There are also hundreds of kilometres of quiet roads and lanes for the cyclists. The scenery is equally fantastic going through the valleys, across streams and cutting through forest, where you’ll hardly be disturbed by cars and trucks. There are plenty of villages and towns to stop over and take a break. Hence it’s not surprising that you will see hundreds of cyclists, either going solo or in large groups; it’s a very popular sport and past-time in the area.

Good quality road bikes are available from different outlets in Flachau for rental; and the outlets will give you plenty of tips and suggestions of where to head for.

Flachau is also the start of one of Austria’s greatest cycle trails: the Enns Cycle Path. This route takes you on a fantastic 252 kilometre journey through valleys, woodlands, romantic valleys, past waterfalls and lakes. Along the way you can arrange accommodation in guest houses with great food and drink to recharge your batteries for the next day! The route is suitable for either intermediates and experts, as there are a string of side valleys to challenge the more experienced and fitter riders. It’s a journey worth taking, but the journey does not necessarily end at Enns, as the trail meets up with the Danube Cycle Path, which is Austria’s and Europe’s most popular cycling trail, which takes you across the heartland of Austria.
