Check out Berchtesgaden
This is one of the most famous and beautiful towns in the Alps, surprisingly it’s in Germany, just across the border, yet only approx 50 minutes from Flachau. The town lies in fantastic setting, overlooked by Mount Watzmann (Germany’s 3rd highest peak) and bordering Konigsee (a deep glacial lake). Despite its association with Hitler and the 3rd Reich, and the famous Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle’s Nest) chateau perched on one of the surrounding peaks, the town has lots to offer the day visitor. There’s also plenty of walking, hiking and bike trails, as the town adjoins The Berchtesgaden National Park
