This city has just about everything (far more than just the setting for the Sound of Music!). It’s a cultural delight: a historic town centre, castles, fortresses, gardens, riverside walks, churches, operas, festivals, cafeterias on the squares, taverns, boutiques and all within 1 square kilometre. There are plenty of guided tours and a great transportation system, by bus, tram or even horse drawn carriage, if you get too tired.
During the Winter and Christmas period there is the ‘must see’ Night Market. So you can still enjoy a day’s skiing on the slopes and head down the A10 motorway to Salzburg for some Christmas shopping, it’s just over a half hour drive from Flachau.
